No, seriously, WineHQ is very useful during porting. ![]() Installing multiple winetricks for no reason might crash your wrapper and will make it gigantic. You should only install a winetrick if it''s absolutely needed. Usually, a winetrick install a Windows dependency which might be necessary in order to run an application. ![]() Winetricks: If a Wine engine doesn''t support certain Windows libraries it''s still possible to make an app that need them to work: winetricks. Every time Wine updates something it has a minor chance of crashing another, so basically most parts of the Windows applications should work with the latest engines (including games), but some will just work correctly with specific old engines. Engines: Wine had many releases among the years, and each one of these releases in what we call ''an engine''. Installing Wineskin Winery you can create your own Wineskin wrappers. Since all the files will be inside that wrapper, that also makes the games very easy to uninstall in case of failure you just need to trash the wrapper. Basically, Wineskin creates a wrapper (.app file basically a Mac application), which inside has a complete Wine, with its binaries, drive C, etc, etc. Wineskin: our ports are made with Wineskin technology, which is based on Wine. Porting isn''t easy to start with, so brace yourself and let''s go.įirst, some important concepts that you must know: That guide is only useful if you have for now: free time, patient and a good Mac computer otherwise, better wait for us to port the game or take a look at CrossOver. In case you want to port a game using the Porting Kit, click here. The error appears after the initial Pharaoh desktop is showing, then after the statement the desktop disappears again. Here, I''m going to post a guide of how to port a game using Wineskin only. Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX)Ĭurrent serial number in output stream: 347ĭoesn't look good to me and don't know how to handle it. X Error of failed request: GLXBadFBConfig Weirdly, since my second startup I now run into an X error when running the Wine command: I own an original game CD (which should be worth a million by now) and I managed to run installation by cumbersomely mending the access problems to files, which it showed. I also got my previous installation running, which is the prove you don't need to copy from Windows. Mysteriously, however, Winde doesn't complain about this error but just terminates, which adds to being stuck. I falsely stated a Linux filepath instead of a Windows filepath as argument when starting "wine". Also I noticed the error I previously made. I followed your recipe and I got it running. Pharaoh run in this way runs in a window (not full screen) which I think is good because I put the remaining space to good use with a file I call the Sidebar, which contains some notes and tips I refer to often. If you have this problem, try 800圆00 (F8) resolution if the problem disappears at that resolution, tell me, and I'll give you a better way to solve that. That's because a height of 768 is just a little too big to fit on my monitor. I run Pharaoh at its 1024x768 (F9) resolution but at that resolution, I have problems scrolling down by moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen. If it asks you to insert the game disk each time you play, let me know, and we'll see what we can do. I'm not asked to put the Pharaoh game disk in the computer at the start of each game. ![]() Wine "c:\GOG Games\Pharaoh Gold\Pharaoh.exe" This launches a shell script containing the following:Ĭd "/home/user/.wine/drive_c/GOG Games/Pharaoh Gold" To actually start the game I open a terminal (command prompt) and enter "sh ~./shex/Pha.sh". drive_c and Audio, take the default (but this may depend on what audio driver you're using). The WINE parameters I use are: Applications, click Add application and select Pharaoh.exe (obviously) Libraries, none Graphics, Automatically capture OFF, Allow decorate ON, Allow control ON, Emulate desktop ON Desktop Integration, take all the defaults Drives, set C to. In my case, that was ~/.wine/drive_c/GOG Games/Pharaoh Gold, but the exact name will depend on which version of Pharaoh you're using. So I installed the Large version on a Windows 7 machine, and then copied all the files to the "Pharaoh directory" in my Linux environment. However, the installer doesn't work at all. I find that Pharaoh works well under WINE.
